Boasting to be one of the best in the world, the Singapore’s transport system comprises of a Mass Rapid Transport (MRT), Bus services that are readily available and efficient with a fleet of Taxis from a phone call away or with the wave of a hand to bring you to your destination. The furthest travelling time from east to west is approximately an hour and a half by train.
The EZ-link card is a must-have for all travelers to access the main transport system in Singapore. This card acts as a clearance and payment to the public transport in Singapore – just a tap and you are in. It saves time and is convenient to boot.
3 main forms of transport:
- SBS Bus: Buses are readily available in Singapore. In each surrounding area, there is bound to be at least 2 bus stops. The estimated interval time between buses ranges from 5 minutes to 20 minutes. A bus guide (Hyperlink to popular website) will be useful in orientating your way around Singapore. As of now, almost all if not 80% of the buses in Singapore are air-conditioned and that is why you do not have to worry about the humidity level when you are boarding a bus. On top of that, some buses are even equipped with a television set, you will never get bored taking a bus again. The bus fares in Singapore are also reasonable. Prices range from S$0.70 to S$2.00, depending on the distance travelled. In recent years, Singapore has introduced the express bus system for late party goers. This buses operate from midnight till morning, and they are definitely a cheaper alternative (at least 50% lower) to taking a taxi.
- MRT: Mass Rapid Transport. The name says it all. The train service in Singapore is the fastest way to get to your destination. In recent years, Singapore has developed a train station in almost every part of Singapore. Worried about the crowd during peak hours? - Taxi: Singapore has a few taxi operators namely: Comfort Delgro, SMRT, Silver Cab. As of 2009, the taxi fare generally starts at $2.80 and for every kilometer the meter jumps at S$0.20. However, do take note of the additional charges below:
